SUMMARY:Nick Kilhams Memorial Lecture 2024
DESCRIPTION:Nick Kilhams Memorial Lecture 2024\nThe LMA and the Nick Kilhams Foundation (NKF) would like to invite you to the third annual Nick Kilhams Memorial Lecture. The event will be chaired by David Powell\, Trustee of NKF and LMA’s Head of Underwriting. The event will include: \n\nNKF Update: David Powell\nUpdate by Amelia Wrighton\, CEO\, Suicide&Co.\nKeynote lecture: How Resilient/Secure is Liberal Democracy? by John Kampfner\, author and broadcaster\n\nAbout Suicide&Co.\nSuicide&Co is a national charity with the purpose of supporting those bereaved by suicide and opening up the conversation around suicide-related grief to prevent mental health deterioration after the trauma of losing a loved one to suicide. \nThe support that Suicide&Co provides is one-to-one bereavement counselling\, a helpline open Monday to Friday\, 09.00 to 17.00 and digital guidance through their app and website. Their vision is to provide adults bereaved by suicide in England and Wales with timely and effective support because everyone deserves to feel like they have permission to grieve. \nAbout John Kampfner\nJohn began his journalistic career with The Daily Telegraph\, first in East Berlin\, where he reported on the fall of the Wall and unification of Germany\, then in Moscow at the time of the collapse of Soviet Communism. He went on to work for the FT and BBC covering UK politics. \nHe was Editor of the New Statesman from 2005 to 2008\, taking the magazine to 30-year circulation highs. He was the Society of Magazine Editors Current Affairs Editor of the Year in 2006. Since 2019\, he has been a Senior Associate Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI)\, a defence and security think tank. In 2022-2023 he was Executive Director of the UK in the World Programme at Chatham House and Chair of the Young Königswinter conference\, which brings young people together from Germany and the UK. \nJohn is a regular contributor on the BBC and the writer of seven books including in Search of Berlin: The Story of a Reinvented City\, which was published in October 2023. \nAbout NFK\nTragically\, Nick Kilhams died from suicide early one Saturday morning in May 2021. NKF’s mission is to keep Nick’s memory and legacy alive in the marketplace that he loved so dearly. NFK fears others in the industry may be struggling to deal with their inner thoughts and mental health challenges. \nThey hope that by bringing Nick’s story to the fore\, others will be brave enough to share and talk openly if they need help. NKF aims to raise money to fund mental health resources\, to aid anyone in our market that needs help. \nIf you have any questions about this event\, please email jackie.clark@lmalloyds.com. \nAudience\nThis lecture is open to political risk and credit market practitioners\, including those with an interest in the work of the NKF; advancing education and raising awareness of mental health issues. \n \n\n \n Share this event with your colleagues:\n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Facebook\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Twitter\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n LinkedIn\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Email\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Visit Event Website
