SUMMARY:Marine Warranty Survey Fundamentals
DESCRIPTION:This is a collaborative presentation and discussion between the Joint Natural Resources Committee (JNRC) and The Society of Offshore Marine Warranty Surveyors (SOMWS). \nDescription\nMarine warranty survey plays a crucial role in providing technical assurance for both the insurer and insured for offshore energy and offshore renewables projects. In the last 20 years\, the JNRC has placed great emphasis on establishing guidance for the practice and scope of the engagement of marine warranty surveyor (MWS) within insured projects. \nSimilarly\, they have worked with the marine warranty community to establish SOMWS\, a professional body providing independent accreditation for individual surveyors. \nIn this first presentation of the series\, the JNRC and SOMWS will hold a joint presentation on the fundamentals of marine warranty survey. This presentation will provide attendees with an understanding of: \n\nthe need for marine warranty from both a technical and underwriting perspective\nthe role of marine warranty as part of an offshore project\nmarine warranty survey company selection\nindividual surveyor competence requirements\nthe scope of work\ncontractual relationships\nthe appointment process and timing.\n\nThe presentation will conclude with the challenges that marine warranty faces\, which will be a segue into a future MWS – Practicalities of Execution session. \nSpeakers\n\nClive Magnus\, JNRC Chair\nJohn Munnings-Tomes\, JNRC Survey and Engineering Committee Co-Chair\nCaptain Stephen Norman\, SOMWS Chair.\n\nAudience\nThis presentation is of interest to insurance professionals involved with the placement\, coverage and claims handling of offshore energy and offshore renewables projects\, particularly those who have more recently joined the industry\, looking for MWS ‘101’\, or those seeking a refresher.
